Performance Management and Improvement – Business Consultants

Performance management and improvement is a highly valuable consultancy offering for Sterling’s clients. It can be applied as successfully in service and not-for-profit sectors as in manufacturing. It may concern, at one extreme, waste reduction in a production process, at the other more effective performance within a charity.

Either way the process begins by helping organisations to define precisely what they are trying to achieve and what they need to achieve it.
We identify critical quantifiable and qualitative factors and find an appropriate means of measuring performance for each. We then decide which of these factors are crucial to success and ascertain how well they are performing.

The next stage is to create a methodology and establish measures of performance improvement which are meaningful and workable.

This we do by:

  • intelligent listening
  • understanding the business in terms of objectives, capabilities, resources
  • business intelligence – gathering relevant data
  • making selective use of management tools and techniques.

The range of disciplines used in this area of Sterling’s work includes:

  • continuous improvement
  • business process re-engineering
  • operational and process analysis
  • relevant aspects of TQM
  • EFQM Excellence Model
  • benchmarking
  • balanced business scorecard

Work specific to the EFQM Excellence Model includes helping organisations to apply the Model and assisting with the implementation of action plans that arise from the self assessment process. We can run facilitated assessment workshops and support the development and implementation of balanced business scorecards.
